Control System Workbench (CSW)

Our Control System Workbench provides the engineer with a way to characterize, simulate, and debug a control system quickly in virtual time. The time savings over testing on actual hardware can be significant especially for plants with very long time constants.

The software produces a model of the plant from the engineer's estimates for dead time, dc gain and time constant. An example PID controller design is provided. The engineer selects from a menu of tuning algorithms, and the PID control coefficients are then produced by the software.

After the plant and controller have been created, the engineer may input a profile consisting of times and target values to run a simulation and produce a plot of the control loop response.

Source code for the controller is provided so that the engineer may modify it or insert his or her own controller code in the loop and gain a better understanding of the model's operation.

    LCR Meter

    Many LCR (inductance, capacitance, resistance) meters on the market only allow for audio frequency characterization of components. This can be a problem especially when using inductors wound on cores that do not perform well at the frequency of the meter. The target specifications of CEPD's LCR meter are:

  • Frequency of operation: Selectable 10MHz, 100KHz, 10KHz, 1KHz and 100Hz
  • Output level: Selectable 5Vp-p 0.5Vp-p 50mVp-p
  • Source resistance: Selectable 5 Ohm, 50 Ohm, 500 Ohm and 5K Ohm
  • User interface: Up, Down and Select type push buttons to change mode to L, C or R, Calibration, Scaling, and Frequency. 2 line LCD display for value, units, over range.
  • Power: AC Wall adapter in, converted to +/- 9V and +5V
  • Logging: Via USB
  • Target accuracy 0.5% with calibration.
  • R range: 0.1 Ohm to 10MOhm
  • C Range: 2pF to 0.1F
